Greetings!!

As we are about to end this 2011, you might have plans to bid farewell to this year with a good activity, which can fill your heart with satisfaction and esteem for making a positive difference to others.  This is about donating mats and blankets to needy patients in M N J Cancer Hospital, Nampally, Hyderabad.

Today I went to M N J Cancer Hospital in Red Hills, Nampally to find out any requirement for blankets. By chance I could meet the Director, Dr. Prabhakar Rao.  
 
When I introduced myself and expressed our interest to provide blankets for patients, he responded very positively. He suggested that at any time hospitals require blankets. We can consider giving patients directly so that they can take it to their homes or can give to hospital itself so that they can use it for sets of patients, as hospital property. He mentioned that if we want to give to hospital it should be in red color only as they follow color code.

This is the blanket used in M N J.

 He also suggested that it would be useful to provide mats to the patients who stay in the temporary shelter adjacent to the hospital (as an annexe).  This is for patients who undergo radiation treatment. Each patient need to be here for at least 25 days to 30 days. 

Entrace of the Shelter

Usually they have to come to hosptial only for radiation treatment.  Once the procedure is done, they can leave and come back next day. But as they come from different places and also they do not have enough money to pay for dormitories to stay during this period, shelter is provided at a place adjacent to the hospital.

This shelter is arranged with the help of donors. One person provided asbestos sheets (roofing) and some provided fans and lights. One hotel owner, which is near this hospital, is doing great service. He arranged gas stoves, cylinders and provisions. Patients need to bring utensils only. In addition to that he provides milk in the morning, breakfast and one meal a day.

Thanks to Kasyap who readily agreed to volunteer for this activity, we, TMAD, immediately purchased 30 mats (6X9 ft) @ 180 rs. per piece.

Our volunteers Kishore and Harinath garu also responded quickly and visited the hospital at a very short notice. We will be arranging this mats in the shelter on the coming Monday (19th Dec, 2011).

Actual cost is Rs. 250 but as we buy the bundle (30 pieces), we got at this price. It cost us Rs. 5400 + Rs. 50 (for auto).

It takes Rs. 5000 per month to run one Alternate Learning School (ALS) which caters to 20 children along with one meal. ASDS runs 23 such schools and are badly in need of funds.

The tentative budget that is required for ASDS to attend to Education along with one time meal support to the children and Health services of one IDP settlement.

ASDS at the moment is working in 140 settlements and operating 23 Alternative Learning Schools (ALS) which have a reach for children in about half of the settlements. Each ALS requires about Rs.59000 of expenses for ASDS, apart from the partial government support it gets.

The health work for each settlement would require approximately Rs.68,000. As you can see, if we can support the education and health expenses for at least a few centres or settlements, it would be  a great help.

 In addition to Education and Health services, ASDS also works on other issues of IDP’s such as shelter, work etc. which also need more funds.

 Work of ASDS with the IDPs

ASDS has been the fore-front organization which has been rendering its helping hand to the IDPs both from the short term as well as from the long perspective, for the past 5 years. Over a period of time, it has made definite difference and improvements in the lives of IDPs and has been successfully rendering many of the needs of the IDPs.

 Initially, ASDS started to support the displaced victims by offering them food, clothing etc. after they identified several IDP settlements deep inside the forests through their own networks. Supporting them with the food and clothing took sometime during the initial period since many of the displaced used to run away hearing the sound of their vehicle and also used to suspect them, during their initial period of contact.

 But, gradually, during the course of time, Tribals started to show faith on ASDS when they started to support them regularly with the food and also with emergency medical services which almost took a year. This has enabled the ASDS organization to start rendering other services such as education to the children, work to the elders and the shelters to the families etc. Every service provided by ASDS has involved a certain process of engagement which happened over a course of the time.

 One of the main problems of the IDPs noticed by ASDS during their work is the widespread malnutrition among the children. Almost in every settlement that they have visited, 70-80% of children were noticed to be suffering from malnutrition. There are various levels of malnutrition i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade malnutrition. Most of the children were found to be suffering from 2nd and 3rd degrees of malnutrition. But several of the children were also found suffering from 4th grade malnutrition who were the most vulnerable. In order to address the issue, ASDS started to take the children in the 4th grade malnutrition stage to ITDA (Integrated Tribal Development Authority) hospital where in they underwent a week treatment. This has improved the health of the children and brought the degree of malnutrition down and saved them from fatal. As a follow up, they have started one meal feeding support to all the children of settlements to improve the nutritional levels of children along with conducting several health camps.

Gradually, they have pulled government into the issue, by giving representation about the status of children to the institutions like State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), National Commission for Protection of Children’s Rights, etc. This has resulted in sanctioning of ICDS and mid day meals schemes to the children during the course of time. Now, more than 80% of the settlements they are working have been sanctioned ICDS and Mid Day meals schemes along with the sanction of Alternative Learning Schools (ALS). For the children, who stay in the settlements, it will be hard for them to go the nearby government school walking around 4-5 kilometers every day in addition to the language barrier and also resistance from the parents. With the ALS sanctioned, now educational volunteers themselves go to the settlements and teach children.

 Apart from this, ASDS has also started Residential Bridge Course (RBC) centre, an upper primary school, which includes a hostel, for the children whose families stay even deep inside the forest from where the schools are not accessible daily. At the moment, they are running 4 RBC schools in which about 700 IDP children are getting educated. Last year, 400 of the children who studied in RBCs have been promoted to the ITDA school. This will take care of the children’s education until 10th class with free food and accommodation. This is one of the remarkable achievements of ASDS.

 With the light of the government support for the issues related to the Children, they have also started to approach the government on issues of elders i.e. work and the shelter. By constantly visiting forest department officials and several other government wings, they have now stopped over 85% of IDP village demolitions by the forest departments. Several orders from the court have also helped in this regard. They have made the government to start issuing NREGS cards to the IDPs. 50% of the IDPs now have NREGS cards.

 Apart from the above works, there have been instances where they have personally cleared debts of IDPs and stop the further harassment from the money lenders, saved some of the children suffering severely from various diseases like malaria, malnutrition and vulnerable tumors in various parts of the body and so on, many other life saving examples and several other wholeheartedly rendered works.

I (Pavan, Bangalore Coordinator, TMAD)  forwarded the earlier Dr Prescriptions from Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad and Chennai Cancer Institute to Dr.Dayanand (Cardiologist, Narayana Hrudayalaya). He forwarded to Dr.Anuradha Rao (Dermatologist, NH Hospitals), she asked me to bring that boy last Thursday. Due to lack of time, Bhargav came yester day for consultation. I accompanied him. We consulted Dr.Anuradha Rao and Dr.Moni (Head of Oncology-Head & Neck Surgery). Dr.Moni said that it is curable and need to be operated asap. They will use the skin from his thigh for operation. I did not get a chance to talk to Dr.Moni regarding operation because he was planning to leave to Kochi. He will be back on Tuesday. As per his assistants, the cost of operation may be around *Rs. 2 Lakhs*. I will talk to Dr. Moni and request for concession.

స్త్రీ, పురుషుల మధ్య శారీరిక మోజు లేని, నిష్కల్మషమైన అభిమానం, ప్రేమ ఉండచ్చు అని…….

ఇలా ఒకటేమిటి…… చాలా చాలా ఉన్నాయి ఈ సినిమాలో అర్థం చేసుకోదగినవి.

క్లుప్తంగా ఇది ఇద్దరి ఆడవారి కథ. హిమాచల్ ప్రదేస్ లో జీనత్ అనే ఆత్మవిశ్వాసం, ధైర్యం కల అమ్మాయి ఉంటుంది. ఆమె, ఆఅమిర్ అనే అతను రెండేళ్ళుగా ప్రేమించుకుంటూ ఉంటారు. ఆమిర్ తల్లిదండ్రుల అనుమతి కోసం వేచిచూస్తుంటారు. ఉద్యోగం కోసం దుబాయి వెళ్ళాలని నిర్ణయించుకుని జీనత్ ని పెళ్ళి చేసుకుని దుబాయి వెళ్ళిపోతాడు. జీనత్ క్రమంగా అత్తమామల ప్రేమని పొందుతుంది. వారికి చేదొడు, వాదోడుగా ఉంటుంది.

రాజస్థాన్ లో మీరా, శంకర్ భార్యాభర్తలు, అగ్నివంశీయులు. ఆచారవ్యవహారాలలో శ్రోత్రియంగా ఉంటారు. అత్తగారి అత్తగారు, అత్తగారు, మామగారు, భార్యా, భర్త, వాళ్ళు పెంచే ఓ కూతురు ఉంటారు. వాళ్ళ భవనం (హవేలీ) అప్పుల్లో ఉన్న కారణంగా శంకర్ దుబాయి వెళ్తాడు.

శంకర్, ఆమిర్ ఒకే రూములో స్నేహంగా ఉంటారు. ఎవరూ లేని సమయంలో వారిద్దరి మధ్య ఎందుకో వివాదం జరిగి అనుకోకుండా పై నుంచి కిందపడడం వల్ల శంకర్ చనిపోతాడు. శంకర్ చావుకి కారణమైనందున ఆమిర్ కు ఉరిశిక్ష పడుతుంది. దుబాయి చట్టాల ప్రకారం  మృతుని భార్య క్షమిస్తే దోషికి ఉరిశిక్ష రద్దవుతుంది.

ఆమిర్, శంకర్ కలిసి తీయించుకున్న ఫోటో తప్ప ఇక ఏ వివరాలు జీనత్ దగ్గర ఉండవు. అతని ఊరు రాజస్థాన్ అని తప్ప ఇంకేమీ తెలియదు. అయినా అలాగే బయలుదేరుతుంది. ఓ సిఖు సాయంతో రాజస్థాన్ వరకు వెళ్తుంది. అక్కడ ఓ దొంగ తన సంచీ, సామాను దొంగలిస్తాడు. ఒంటరిగా ఉన్న ఈమెను బలాత్కరించడానికి ప్రయత్నించబోతే, ఆమె సామానులు దొంగిలించిన అతను పోలీసు వేషంలో వచ్చి రక్షిస్తాడు. ఇతను రకరకాల వేషాలతో ప్రజలను మోసగిస్తూ తన పబ్బం గడుపుకుంటూ ఉంటాడు. ఈ అమ్మాయి గురించి తెలుసుకుని తనకి సాయపడతాడు. మొత్తానికి జోధ్పూర్ దగ్గర సరోహా అనే పట్టణం అని తెలుసుకుని వారి ఇంటికి వెళ్తారు. మీరాని కలుసుకోక ముందే… శంకర్ అమ్మ, నాన్న, తమ్ముడు ఆమెను వెళ్ళగొడ్తారు.

ఎలాగైనా మీరాని కలిసి ఆమే చేత సంతకం పెట్టించుకోవాలని జీనత్ అనుకుంటుంది. మీరా చాలా చలాకి అయిన పిల్ల కాకపోతే భర్త పోయిన తర్వాత తన ఇష్టాలన్నిటినీ చంపుకుని జీవచ్ఛవంలా బతుకుతూ ఉంటుంది. చిన్న చిన్న ఆనందాలు పొందేందుకు కూడా తనకు అర్హత లేదు అనుకుంటుంది. అలాంటి ఆలోచనలు రావడమే తప్పు అని భావిస్తుంటుంది.

గుడికి వెళ్ళడం కోసం మాత్రం తను బయటకి వస్తుందని తెలుసుకుని తన భర్తని వెతికేందుకు మీరా సహాయాన్ని అర్థిస్తుంది జీనత్. మొదటే విషయం చెప్తే శంకర్ తల్లిదండ్రుల లాగే మీరా కూడా ఎక్కడ నిరాకరిస్తుందో అని భయపడుతుంది. క్రమంగా వారి మధ్య స్నేహం చిగురిస్తుంది. జీనత్ సహచర్యంలో తన జీవితాన్ని తన ఇష్టం వచ్చినట్టు గడిపే హక్కు తనకు ఉందని, తన హక్కులను తనే సాధించుకోవాలని మీరా తెలుసుకుంటుంది. ఇంతలో ఉరిశిక్ష తేదీ ప్రకటించబడుతుంది. మీరాకి విషయం చెప్తే కోపంగా సంతకం పెట్టడానికి నిరాకరిస్తుంది. మీరా, జీనత్ తో స్నేహం చేస్తోందని తెలిసిన శంకర్ తల్లిదండ్రులు మీరాని బంధిస్తారు. నిరాశతో జీనత్ తిరిగి వెళ్తూ మీరకి ఉత్తరం రాసి వెళ్తుంది. అమ్మమ్మ (అత్తగారి అత్తగారు) సలహాతో, సాయంతో మీరా బయటపడుతుంది. ఆమిర్ ని క్షమిస్తూ సంతకం పెడ్తుంది. జీనత్ తో కలిసి వెళ్తుంది తన ఊరి నుంచి, బందిఖానా లాంటి జీవితం నుంచి.

నటీనటుల నటన, దర్శకత్వ ప్రతిభ, సంగీతం, ప్రదేశాలు, డైలాగులు ఒకటేమిటి అన్నీ చాలా బాగున్నాయి. కొన్ని కొన్ని డైలాగులు హృదయానికి హత్తుకుండిపోతాయి.

దర్శకత్వం, కథ నాగేష్ కుకునూర్ వి. జీనత్ గా గుల్ పనాగ్, మీరా గా అయేషా టకియా, దొంగగా శ్రేయాస్ తల్పడే, శంకర్ నాన్న గా గిరీశ్ కర్నాడ్, ఓ ఫ్యాక్టరీ అధిపతి/అధికారిగా నాగేష్ కుకునూర్ నటన చాలా బాగుంది.

ఏ హోస్లా కైసే ఝుకే…….. ఏ ………. కైసే రుకే……..అనే పాట చాలా బాగుంటుంది. ఫిజా తర్వాత నాకు అంతగా నచ్చింది ఈ సినిమా.

First and foremost, every citizen in India might be feeling bad for the
recent happenings and the frequent killings. Everyone of us are willing to
do something but we do not have a clear idea on what we can do.

There should be a way to show that we all are united in these thoughts and
we are alike in our views. Then we can think of actions.

Actions:

1. Plan a Peace Walk with all NGOs, students on the New Year Day

Each group will take the responsibility of spreading the news about the Walk
and the message is: We will be United, We are Indians, We are against Terror
and We will not tolerate any kind of Terrorism. We pledge to bury the past
and to be determined to move towards a serene future and Most Importantly
……. WE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, ACTIVE CITIZENS. Pledge that we do
not look at people of other religions with suspicion. Let us bring sense in
the people if we know that they are being influenced by extremists.
(Black n White, hindi movie, is the best example on how a Terrorist who
believes that he does things for Religion begin to understand the language
of love and changes..)

2. Collect the peace related statements from all Religions and distribute
those pamphlets

3. In every colony, form Peace Committees and plan good activities once in
every quarter or so. The job of these committees is to ensure the good will
and love for each other and also to do activities that develop and improve
the relations.

4. Let us meet and talk with all the people who have seen bloodshed and
record their emotions and how they were changed over the years.

5. Similarly publish about all the instances where different communities
live in friendship, trust n harmony.

6. Let us discuss with respective state govts., and get trained on how
we can co-operate at the times of crisis.

7. We should make a demand that whoever wants to wage war should first
participate in the war or send any of their family members to take
part in it. No problem if we do not know warfare and tactics, we can
be as armours to our skilled and precious soldiers.

8. Try to visit the borders and the places of significance and pay our
respects to our soldiers. Soldiers always feel that they did their job
and they are back to their disciplined and tiresome routine. We should
show them our respect, love and trust and give them confidence that we
are all there for them.

ముంబై మారణకాండలో, ఈ మధ్య తరచుగా భారతదేశంలో జరిగే ఉత్పాతాలలో దెబ్బతిన్నవి ఎవరి మనోభావాలు !! హిందువులువా, ముసల్మానులవా, క్రైస్తవులవా, పార్శీలవా, సిక్కులవా … ఎవరివి?

ఈ మధ్య ప్రతి ఒక్కరి మనోభావాలు తెగ స్పందిస్తున్నాయి, ముఖ్యంగా నిద్రించే, చేతగాని, చేవలేని, పట్టింపులేని మనవి, సాధారణ ప్రజలవి.

మనమెప్పుడూ సాధారణప్రజల కోవలోనే ఉండేందుకు సిద్ధపడతాము. అప్పుడు ఏ బాధ్యత అవసరం లేదు. ప్రభుత్వం అది చేయలేదు, ఇది చేయలేదు అంటూ నిందిస్తే సరిపోతుంది. ఆ పార్టీ చెత్తదా, ఈ పార్టీ వెధవాయా అని వ్యాఖ్యానాలు చేసుకుంటూ ఉంటే రోజు గడిచిపోతుంది.

ముంబైలో కమెండోలు వారి పని పూర్తయ్యాక బయటకొచ్చి వెళ్ళిపోతుంటే…… భారతమాతా కీ జై…… జై జవాన్ అని సాధారణ ప్రజలు అరిచారని చదివాక ….. భరతమాత, జవాన్లతో పాటు నా మనోభావాలు కూడా గాయపడ్డాయి.

పాకిస్తాన్ జైళ్ళలో మగ్గుతున్న యుధ్ధఖైదీలను విడిపించాలంటూ వారి కుటుంబాలు కాళ్ళరిగేలా ప్రభుత్వ కార్యాలయాల చుట్టూ తిరుగుతుంటే……. అప్పుడేమైంది జై జవాన్ నినాదం.

కార్గిల్ యుధ్ధమప్పుడు లెఫ్టినెంట్ సౌరభ్ కాలియా మరియు అతని సహచరులను అత్యంత కిరాతకంగా హింసించి చంపేసి, చిత్రహింసకు గురైన శవాలను నిస్సిగ్గుగా మనకి అప్పగిస్తే……. ప్రభుత్వం ఎలా స్పందించింది అని ఒక్కరైనా ప్రశ్నించామా !!

చైనా తో యుధ్ధం, పాకిస్తాన్ తో యుద్ధాలు….. జరిగిన రోజులను మనం స్మృతిపథంలో ఉంచుకోము. సినిమావాళ్ళ పెళ్ళిళ్ళు, పేరంటాలు అన్నీ వార్తలే.

ఇంచుమించు మన దేశంలోని ప్రతి రాష్ట్రంలోను తీవ్రవాదుల తూటాలకు మన జవానులు వీరమరణం పొందుతున్నారు. ఏనాడైనా వారికి శ్రధ్ధాంజలి ఘటించామా? అసలు వారికి పోరాడేందుకు సదుపాయాలు కల్పిస్తున్నామా?

జై జవాన్….. భారత్ మాతా కీ జై…… మనలాంటి సాధారణ ప్రజలందరికీ …… ఇలా నినదించేందుకు… హక్కు లేదు…..అర్హత లేదు…….

సైన్యానికి యువత అవసరం ఎంత ఉంది !! మనలో ఎంత మందిమి సైన్యంలో చేరుతున్నాము? మనం ఏమీ చేయము. అదేదో సినిమాలో చెప్పినట్టుగా…….. జెండా పండుగ రోజు జాతీయ గీతాలాపనతో మొలకెత్తే దేశభక్తి ఆ గీతంతోనే ముగుస్తుంది.

ముంబై లాంటి దుశ్చర్యలు జరిగినప్పుడల్లా అవివేకమైన ఆవేశంతో, అర్థం పర్థం లేని నినాదాలు చేస్తాము. పాకిస్తాన్ మీదకు యుద్ధానికి వెళ్ళాలని అంటాం. అవును మనకేమి పోయింది? పోయేవి సైనికుల ప్రాణాలు మాత్రమే కదా…

అందుకే మనకి యుధ్ధం కావాలి. సొల్లు వేసుకోవడానికి బోలేడు కబుర్లు ఉంటాయి అప్పుడు. పాకిస్తాన్ కాదు భారత దేశం శతృవు. మనం…. సాధారణ ప్రజానీకం.. శతృవులం.

ఓ పంది, ఓ గోవు, ఓ కాగితం, ఓ కట్టడం…..

డబ్బు కోసం మనమే ఉగ్రవాదులను రానిస్తాము, ఆశ్రయమిస్తాము, అన్నీ సమకూరుస్తాము. డబ్బు తప్ప ఏమీ పట్టని మన జీవితాలు ఉగ్రవాదుల తూటాలకు బలవ్వడమే భేషుగ్గా ఉంటుంది.

అవును…………. మనోభావాలు గాయపడ్డాయి…
